USAOTPThe United States Association of Opioid Treatment Providers
USAOTP was created to better serve OTPS that are neighboring Texas.  USAOTP  For the Providers

Our History

In 1993 a group of opioid treatment providers (OTPs), gathered in Austin, Texas. It was there that the Texas Methadone Treatment Association (TMTA) was created. This plan for an association was a dream for Oscar Jones and Steven Tapscott. Mr. Tapscott was the organization's first president and helped start its initial and subsequent activities.

Throughout its history, TMTA listened to its membership. When accreditation guidelines were introduced, TMTA was aganst the concept of its formulation due to the undue burden on OTPs many of which are small busnesses.  Although, it was implemented, USAOTP accepted being part of the committee to update and revisit these guidelines.

TMTA became USAOTP when it became apparent that besides methadone, the future held other opioid treatment options (buprenorphine, etc.). Also, OTPs from neighboring States wished to join. Currently, Oklahoma and California have affiliated programs as members.

Oscar Jones, Dr. Alex John, Jr. and Farrukh Shamsi remain as advisory board members. They have been involved witn the Association since its creation in 1993.
